I linked to a story at my blog found via Green Daily about a renewable and sustainable pair of frames being made from Bamboo.

Wow I love the glasses!! If only those were available at my eye doctor's store. Hopefully this will start a trend in the eye glasses industry! Great find

Does your doctor's office make lenses for any kind of frame because you could always order the frames separately and then take them to your doctor to get fitted with your prescriptions lenses. Just a thought.
Also, I reread the description on the amy sack website and only the sides are 100% bamboo. The front is not. And although it is made with a not-so-horrible kind of plastic, it is still plastic. I guess they haven't figure out how to mold the bamboo enough to make the front. Amy Sack description: "this style combines dark stained bamboo temples with a textured acetate front." Wikipedia - acetate "Acetate can also refer to cellulose acetate, especially fibres or other derived products such as the acetate disc used in audio record production. Cellulose acetate can be found in many household products." So it is not made from petroleum but it is still plastic.
