This soap rack is extra-green. It reduces waste by keeping your soap from becoming a disgusting mess in the bottom of the soap dish - and it's made from those disposable bamboo chopsticks that would otherwise get thrown in the trash after a single use. The hemp twine resists mildew, so it is great for this often-wet application. And, if the rack gets nasty, you can compost it after you rinse off the soap residue!
The only down side to this soap rack is that you might get some weird looks for walking out of the Chinese restaurant with "trash" in your hands. But it could be a great conversation starter about recycling...
Directions:
- Cut 5 or 6 chopsticks to slightly longer than the long dimension of your soap dish.
Cut 2 chopsticks slightly shorter than the short dimension of your soap dish.
Line up your long chopsticks and place a short one on top of them at a 90 degree angle.
Use a single piece of hemp twine to wrap around and around to hold the pairs of chopsticks together at each crossover point. Wrap each point 4 or 5 times then go on to wrap the next point.
Tie off the end after you wrap the last chopstick and tuck the loose end under a loop.
Repeat steps 3 - 5 for the second short chopstick.
